THE 10 ESSENTIALS | Passion for mountains Enthusiasm for 5000 ft Adventurous scrambling Komradery for camping S nacks to share |
Thanks to the US Forest Service making some trails look like Green Lake in Seattle, more hikers and "tennis shoe pilgrims" are getting to higher and more exposed mountain tops without ANY equipment. While on a good day, it's ok to be at a 5000ft look-out in tennis shoes and shorts, mountain weather changes fast and one should be ready for anything. Clearly, wearing tennisshoes on Mt Adams puts other people like rescuers at risk too. Even mushroom pickers get lost and die of exposure. So take the appropriate equipment!
