  • 6: EMERGENCY CHEST HARNESS with PRUSIK CORDS:

If you don't have a seat harness, or a chest & seat harness, you can build an emergency chest harness by using prusik cords.

NOTE: Using a chest harness without a seat harness is dangerous or deadly if you hang in the rope longer than 10 min. Also, DO NOT use a "figure eight harness" without a seat!

For premade commercial harnesses, look at Peaks Recommended Equipment

7: TWIST BELAY on Carabiner or Ice-Axe:

Belay without more gadgets. Twist as much needed for the thickness of the rope and stiffness. Warning: Dynamic Belay, use of gloves recommened, as well as locking carabiner.

Can also be used to rappel. Not recommened in rope harnesses or slings, as the carabiner turns itself out, voiding the friction needed for belay.

NOTE: As with all systems or devises, experience is needed to use them safely. Also, be anchored (Have a self belay on) while belaying others.
